Today’s Daily Brief: Buhari condemns election violence in Jos, OBJ shows up at GEJ’s daughter’s wedding, 14 soldiers killed during Baga invasion, and more

No fewer than 14 soldiers were killed in action during the attack on Baga by Boko Haram insurgents last Saturday, while over 30, who were wounded, are now receiving medical attention, the Defence Headquarters has stated.

It said most of those declared missing in action had also rejoined their unit in the ongoing reorganisation for further operations.

Although, several of the terrorists died in the course of the attack and efforts at repelling the assailants, the actual figure of civilian casualties has yet to be creditably determined.

All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.), on Saturday warned that Nigeria would be in trouble if the Peoples Democratic Party wins the 2015 elections.

Buhari said this while addressing a campaign rally at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu.

He told the gathering that it would be a mistake if they failed to vote out the PDP.

“If you make a mistake to allow the PDP to rule again for the next four years, we will all be in trouble,” Buhari said.

He stressed the need for people to collect their Permanent Voter Cards in order to ensure that the PDP was voted out.

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, has condemned the burning and destruction of the campaign buses of President Goodluck Jonathan, in Jos, Plateau.

Earlier today, violence erupted in Jos, as some youths burned vehicles belonging to the president’s campaign.

Buhari, who is in Anambra on his campaign tour, took to Twitter to denounce the violence, while also telling his supporters that “elections are not war”.

The church wedding of President Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter, Inebharapu Paul on Saturday  was contrary to expectations attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

The former president has been criticizing Jonathan’s administration in the past few months.

Obasanjo, who arrived the venue with Dr. Andy Uba and some other aides before the commencement of the service, was ushered into the hall amidst standing ovation by his admirers.

He took his seat at the VIP section while his introduction during the service attracted a loud applause from the congregation.

On Saturday, January 3, insurgents of Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram, besieged Baga for three days, killing thousands of people and razing the entire town.

According to security analysts and Amnesty International, the attack may be the worst in the six years of insurgency in the North east.

Yemaye Grema, a survivor of the attack, spoke to AFP in Maiduguri about the massacre in the town in Borno state.
