Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, on Saturday picked an Expression of Interest form of his party, declaring his intention to run for the Lagos State Governorship seat.

Ikuforiji, who picked the form at the All Progressives Congress state secretariat in Ikeja, told newsmen that he believed that the state deserved the best, which he was willing to give, come 2015.

“I believe very much in the future of the state and I know that the best is what the people deserve,” he said.

The speaker said he had discharged his duties professionally and creditably at the legislative arm of government and he had begun a transition to the executive arm as he picked his form.

Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom, a governorship aspirant in Benue State, has been selected with three others, from a plethora of aspirants seeking the same office, in a pruning exercise conducted by Minda PDP Elders Forum.

The outcome of the pruning exercise was announced in Makurdi.

Ortom had several months ago made a similar list in an exercise conducted by royal fathers under the aegis of the Tiv Area Traditional Council.

Chairman of the forum and former House of Representatives member, Cletus Upaa, announced at a meeting with 16 governorship aspirants and 70 elders from the axis at the Makurdi residence of Senator Fred Orti that Ortom was selected from Guma, former Speaker, Benue state House of Assembly, Terhemen Tarzoor from Makurdi, Felix Atume, Gwer West and Alex Adum, Gwer.

Ekiti State Government on Saturday announced the dissolution of the 35 local government areas including Local Council Development Areas’ caretaker administrations.

This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, made available to News Agency of Nigeria in Ado-Ekiti.

According to the statement, all the 35 council chairmen along with their secretaries and other members of caretaker committees have been relieved of their appointments.

The who is who in politics from the northern region under the umbrella of the All Progresives Congress (APC) are currently meeting in Kaduna to strategise and take necessary resolutions that will help the party in the forthcoming 2015 general elections‎.

The presidential aspirants including Leadership Founder, Sam Nda Isaiah, former vice President Atiku Abubakar and General Buhari are among those who arrived the venue of the meeting early.

Governorship aspirants under the party from the north are also in attendance, while others seeking election into the national and state assemblies are also on ground.

The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has declared its support for the ceasefire announced by the federal government between the government and the Boko Haram insurgents.

The Northern Nigerian socio-cultural group said the ceasefire is a welcome development considering the huge loss of lives and property caused by the insurgency.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim, the group said the ceasefire should also lead to a return to normalcy in affected areas.
