Ondo State House of Assembly today served impeachment notice on the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi for alleged gross misconduct.

Some of the nine allegations levelled against him included financial misappropriation, absenteeism from official duties, allegedly causing political disaffection in the cabinet of the state government.

The Lagos state Governor-elect, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has inaugurated a transition committee to ensure a seamless transfer of power to his government come May 29.

The governor-elect disclosed this in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, on Tuesday

According to the statement, the committee will be headed by the Deputy Governor-elect, Dr. Oluranti Adebule.

“Other members of the team are, Prof. Ademola Abass, Mr. Babatunde Rotinwa, Mr. Fola Lasisi, Mrs. Rafiquat Onabamiro, Mr. Tunde Durosimi-Etti, Dr. Femi Onanuga, Mr. Ade Akinsanya, Mr. Akeem Sulaimon and Mr. Dele Onabokun.

President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, with immediate effect.

The appointment was announced by Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, on Tuesday, April 21.

U.S Vice-President Joe Biden on Tuesday commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s acceptance of the elections results and show of statesmanship by congratulating the President-elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. A statement issued by the U.S Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria stated that Biden spoke with Jonathan in a telephone conversation from Washington D.C.

Hundreds of youths took to the streets of Enugu on Tuesday to protest xenophobic attacks targeted at Nigerians and other African nationals by South Africans.
They demanded an end to the attacks within 48 hours, failing which South African investments in Enugu State and other parts of Nigeria would be destroyed.
The youths, under the aegis of Youth Action for Success, carried placards with various inscriptions, including ‘No to mindless killing of Nigerians!’, ‘Stop this xenophobia now!’, ‘Don’t tempt our patience’, among others.
Speaking to journalists during the rally, the leader of the group, Jesechai Okezie, expressed regrets that South Africans have not been grateful for the hospitality of other Africans.
