Today’s Noisemakers: Adekunle Gold, Yemi Alade, Chude Jideonwo, others

Every day on the Nigerian internet, there are people who keep our eyes glued to our phone screens as we read their rants, opinions, perspectives on political and social matters, etc. Sometimes, they are just downright ridiculous. We make it our job to take down the names of these noisemakers.

Here’s our list from today:

1. Chude Jideonwo

…the part where he writes, “After all, I myself, I come from Nigeria…“. Quite sad.

This young woman waited after my book reading at Lafayette University, Pennsylvania, just by my side – patiently. Because there was a rush of people who wanted to say kind things and sign their books, it took me a while before it hit me “she really wants to talk to you”. So I stopped everyone and paid attention, thinking it must be a personal matter. Then, with a very quiet voice, she began to talk about her country, Madagascar. And all her frustrations, and all her pain, and all the disappointment, and the hopelessness she now, often, feels. She asked me, after this state of the nation summary: “Do you think we can have any change in my country? Do you think it is possible? What do you think?”…. It turned out to be the hardest, most perplexing question anyone has ever asked me. It wasn’t what she asked. It was how she asked. It also from whence she asked… I am sorry, I don’t think I gave her the answers she needed. After all, I myself, I come from Nigeria… #howtowinelectionsinafrica #booktour 📷 @dawitleo

Still on the #EndSARS campaign

6. Alajede Ibrahim

Very valid question, since the Police think the person who started the #EndSARS campaign should be investigated.
