What’s with Toke Makinwa and her outlandish statements?

Toke Makinwa

Lately, Nigerian radio personality, vlogger, an author, Toke Makinwa has been the subject of criticisms among Nigerians. Many Nigerians on social media are not taken it lightly with the 32 year-old Nigerian television host by lampooning her over her statement on WhatsApp call on her new vlog.

Just last week, Toke suffered series of backlash on social media when she aired her view on hairnets, farting, morning kisses and more.

This week, the OAP came for guys who call their beau through WhatsApp. In a part during 6 minutes and 2 seconds video, she said, “Girls like being called, but not WhatsApp call, I feel some type of way when a guy is not using his credit to call me”.

To her, calling shows effort and by not spending money to call a lady you’re interested in or you are dating, shows that you are lazy and not ready to do the work.

Sister Toke has a right to her opinion, and she should not be begrudged on that.

Last July, the vlogger took to her YouTube page to ‘advise’ ladies in their early 20s. The video became the talk of social media in October as she received a lot of backlash for what many termed as “ridiculous”. Toke while speaking in the video she titled, “20’s vs 30’s” the media personality advised young ladies (many of who are fickle-minded) to kiss a stranger, go clubbing and even to have a one-night stand.

A one-night stand o!

It’s hard to know if Toke makes these statements to get talkability or the for sake of publicity, however, it’s not too difficult to figure out that whenever she makes such comments it trends for days.

When the previous video became public, we called it out for what it is: wrong, wrong, wrong!

Toke is a role model to many people, especially young ladies, who take her words as ‘Gospel truth’ and there’s every possibility for her words to be acted upon.

With her history of making such outlandish statements, there’s really no saying that Nigerians should get ready for another ‘controversial’ vlog from the fashionista.
