Tompolo’s security aides withdrawn

The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly withdrawn the security aides assigned to a former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo.

The security aides were assigned to the former militant leader in 2009 by the Federal Government, during the administration of late President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

According to Vanguard, the security aides were withdrawn shortly after Justice Ibrahim Buba issued the first bench warrant against the ex-militant leader, in January 2016.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had filed a 40-count charge against Tompolo, the immediate-past Director-General of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi and eight others.

The suspects were accused of diverting and converting- the sum of N34bn and N11.9bn belonging to NIMASA- to their personal use.

In spite of the two arrest warrants issued for Tompolo and the subsequent declaration of him being wanted, security agencies have thus far, failed to apprehend him and present him in court to answer to the charges leveled against him.
