We love them, then we hate them, then we love to hate them, and the cycle repeats itself. Some of them go out of their way to cause trouble while some just attract scandal effortlessly to themselves. Whatever the case, they kept us entertained all year-long.

In no particular order, we bring you our list of the top 10 walking scandals of 2011.

Charly Boy

The Area fada scored a career reviving gig judging wannabe talents on the Nigerian Idol reality television series but trust him to paint even that with a few strokes of his scandalous brush. From attending Idol auditions with a live snake to showing up at red carpets with  escorts that look like rejects from the Haus of gaga, our eyes were definitely watching him. 

Denrele Edun

Denrele has perfectly embodied the term walking scandal most of his career. He was recently unveiled as a veejay for South African music station Channel O but it is his predilection for cross dressing that has kept him in the limelight this year. While we were still getting over the viral pictures of he and Charly Boy caught in a lip lock, yet another surfaced of him looking pretty in drag. And was he rocking peep-to heels on the red carpet at the Hip Hop world Awards? Yes he was. 

Tonto Dikeh

What hasn’t Miss Dikeh been up to lately? She’s starred in a soft porn flick, simulated sex onstage with 2face, had numerous body piercings and tattoos, engaged blogger Linda Ikeji by calling her a failed model, let her detractors have it on Twitter and has been rumoured to be dating Wizkid. For this Port Harcourt girl though, she couldn’t care less what we think of her and plays only by her own rules.

Chief Tony Okoroji

Conventional wisdom has it that if there is a big budget event burial, anniversary, tribute concert to be planned, Chief Okoroji is your man. Only be prepared to deal with the accusations and controversy that usually follow his otherwise stellar event specials. When he is not battling divas demanding for proper financial accounting on newspaper pages, he is penning amazing bad belle replies and threatening to take legal action. Somehow despite his best intentions, the man always ends up in the eye of the storm.

Onyeka Onwenu

We all love the elegant stallion but none can deny she has the supreme knack for courting controversy. When she is not quarrelling with Chief Tony Okoroji over some burial committee finances, she is singing her heart out, egging President Jonathan to run for office and lift Nigeria out of the doldrums, (look how great that turned out). Some say she would encourage anyone in power to run, but we say a girl’s got to eat. We love the way she manages to clean up though. Always. 

Kelly Hansome

The singer has had quite the year, picking up beefs with some of the music industry’s finest and getting picked up by the police for his efforts. The lists of his adversaries are as long as they are powerful: Mo’Hits crew, Choc boiz and even his former home Kennis music. This entire ruckus does not even hide the obvious though; the man is in dire need of a hit.

Mercy Johnson

Lesbianism, man-snatching, disrespect for elders, kleptomania, name it and poor Mercy stands accused. Since she stormed our screens, this scandal-prone beauty has been as famous for her knack for controversy as she has for her acting talent. Even her wedding celebrations turned into a media circus when another woman emerged, claiming to be legally married to the groom. Of course she went on with the nuptials and you would think that would be all. Pictures that would later prove to be still shots from an upcoming movie soon emerged, revealing a bruised and battered Mercy and suggesting trouble in her paradise. What is next, we wonder.

Prophet T.B Joshua

The pastor of embattled footballers and troubled prime ministers, T.B Joshua has consistently been in the eye of the storm. When he is not predicting results of football matches, he is surviving assassination attempts, all the while casting out demons at his Synagogue church of all nations. At least he hasn’t slapped any witches yet.

Terry G

This year, Terry G attempted an image overhaul that saw him renounce his ‘ginjah’ title and insisting on being addressed as the Akpako master. But old habits die-hard we realised, as upcoming singer, Danny Young accused him of stealing the song, ‘Eli Jah.’ (Anyone remember Ay.com). He released an album that just didn’t fly, severed ties with his record label, took on rapper M.I for err… size on Twitter and was also rumoured to have gotten married in a secret ceremony.  Seems like Terry G just cannot leave trouble alone.

Jerry Jideobi

Oh dear! How did we get to this stage? This young man has been a fixture on red carpets this season and his fearless, atrocious mash-ups always leave us mortified. Where does one buy the confidence to pull this off? Apparently he is a makeup artiste and is only trying for the attention accorded his more famous clients. What is next, a reality TV show?
