The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) for the second time in a week, lowering it from ₦895 to ₦890 per litre.

While NNPCL stations now sell at the new rate, Dangote Refinery’s partners—AP Ardova, Optima, MRS, and Bovas—offer slightly cheaper rates at ₦885 per litre.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has advocated for a uniform fuel pricing system across West Africa to curb the importation of adulterated products into the region.

Zamfara residents protest rising bandit attacks, demand urgent action

Residents of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday, calling on the government to tackle the growing threat of banditry in the region.

The protesters, who came on motorcycles, in cars, and on foot, marched through the city and gathered at the main gate of the Government House in Gusau to voice their concerns.

Communities like Mada, Ruwan Bore, Bangi, and others have reportedly faced repeated attacks, with over 100 deaths recorded in recent months. Locals say the violence has made farming nearly impossible, worsening food insecurity.

Globacom launches device protection service for mobile users

Telecoms giant Globacom has introduced a new Device Protection Service to ease customers’ concerns over mobile device damage, partnering with Cubecover to roll out the first initiative of its kind in Nigeria’s telecom sector.

The service offers protection against screen and water damage, with subscribers eligible for up to ₦50,000 in screen repairs or replacements. Both new and existing customers can access this coverage by paying a small daily, weekly, or monthly premium.

According to Globacom’s Head of Value Added Services, Mr. Mojeed Aluko, the daily plan costs ₦50, while the weekly and monthly plans go for ₦300 and ₦600, respectively.

World Bank partners with Nigeria on 90,000km Fibre-Optic project

The World Bank Group is collaborating with Nigeria to implement a 90,000-kilometre fibre-optic cable project aimed at boosting the country’s digital infrastructure and accelerating economic growth.

World Bank Managing Director and CFO, Anshula Kant, disclosed this after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. She reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation goals.

Kant also expressed support for the broader macroeconomic reforms introduced under President Tinubu’s administration.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to borrow $347 million as part of the 2025–2026 borrowing plan.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the President’s letter during plenary, outlining the loan’s purpose and urgency.

Tinubu explained that the additional funds were needed to cover a $47 million cost increase for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, which now totals $747 million.
