Tragic: 9-year-old boy drowns in Adamawa

by Akan Ido

The body of a nine year old boy was found floating on the banks of the River Benue in Yola, Adamawa State, yesterday. The body was found by fishermen who were working in the area.

His body was quickly recovered and taken to the shores of the river.

Reports coming from Adamawa indicate that corpses, especially that of children are mostly found floating on the water during the rainy season.

A fisherman, Mallam Abubakar Haruna, said most of the victims are children who usually come to the river to swim oblivious of the increasing waves occasioned by the increment in volume of water in the river.

He advised parents especially those who live in Jimeta, Vunoklang, and environs to be extra vigilant in monitoring the movement of their children, saying that lack of vigilance is mostly responsible for the increase in cases of children drowning while swimming.
