Trump’s friend says he is considering sacking Russia investigation special counsel

Many President Trump allies are beginning to agitate for the removal of special counsel Robert Mueller. The special counsel was appointed just last month and charged with the responsibility of investigating Russian interference in the U.S election and a likely collusion with President’s Trump’s campaign.

According to reports, questions are being raised concerning the former FBI Director’s impartiality because of his friendship with fired FBI Director James Comey, hinting that he could not be trusted to lead the investigation. A personal friend of the President, Chris Ruddy, the chief executive of Newsmax, suggested the president was thinking about sacking Mueller.

In an interview, Ruddy said, “I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel, I think he’s weighing that option”. Some Republican lawmakers, however, disagreed strongly Monday, “It would be a disaster,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) “There’s no reason to fire Mueller. What’s he done to be fired?”

The White House was quick to respond, putting out a disclaimer. Press secretary Sean Spicer said in a statement;

 “Mr Ruddy never spoke to the president regarding this issue, with respect to this subject, only the president or his attorneys are authorized to comment.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who had called Mueller a “superb choice” for special counsel with an “impeccable reputation for honesty and integrity”, has changed his mind. On Monday, he tweeted “Time to rethink”.  Jay Sekulow, a member of Trump’s legal team, who told ABC in an interview on Sunday that he was “not going to speculate” on whether Trump might at some point order the deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, to fire Mueller.

Ruddy’s speculation that Trump might fire Mueller was probably derived from  Jay Sekulow’s ABC interview Sunday where he said that he was “not going to speculate” on whether Trump might order  Rod Rosenstein, to fire Mueller.

“Look, the president of the United States, as we all know, is a unitary executive. But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. And I’m not going to speculate on what he will or will not do,” Sekulow said. Still, he added, “I can’t imagine that that issue is going to arise”

Ann Coulter, a conservative activist tweeted that Attorney General Jeff Sessions never should’ve recused himself. “Now that we know TRUMP IS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, Sessions should take it back & fire Mueller.”
