The much anticipated bilateral meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 summit in Germany has kicked off. President Trump opened the meeting by saying to Putin; it’s an honor to be with you”, Politico reports.

Accompanied by Secretary of state Rex Tillerson and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, both world leaders did mot however mention any specifics of what they would be discussing.

According to Politco, President Trump saidin a sideline remark; “President Putin and I have been discussing various things, and I think it’s going very well. We’ve had some very, very good talks. We are going to have a talk now and obviously that will continue, but we look forward to a lot of very positive things happening for Russia, for the United States and for everybody concerned, and It’s an honor to be with

This bilateral meeting marks the first meeting between the two presidents since President Trump’s election, amid allegations that the Russian government meddled in the elections to Trump’s favor.

Russia has since denied allegations of any interference and Trump has suggested that only Russia may not be to blame, and that other countries may have interfered also.
