U.S. Energy Secretary gets pranked by Russian comedians into a fake interview

Rick Perry, the U.S. Energy Secretary was pranked by a Russian prankster posing as the Prime Minister of Ukraine into discussing expanding American coal exports to Ukraine and other energy matters during a phone call, Reuters reports.

Unknown to the Secretaryhe was discussing with popular comedians who are famous in Moscow for pranking celebrities and government officials in such stunts. The comedians,  Vladimir Krasnov and Alexei Stolyarov also known as  “Jerky Boys of Russia,” have made a host of these prank calls including making prank calls to British singer Elton John, pretending to be President Vladimir Putin.

The call happened on July 19 and lasted for about 22-minutes as Perry discussed the U.S. nuclear weapons program, sanctions against Russia, helping Ukraine develop oil and gas, and the Paris climate accord on the call.

In a written statement, Energy Department spokeswoman Shaylyn Hynes said; “These individuals are known for pranking high-level officials and celebrities, particularly those who are supportive of an agenda that is not in line with their governments. In this case, the energy security of Ukraine”.
