Update: Jonathan advises voters to remain patient as card reader malfunctions

After a glitch getting himself accredited at the Otazi Plaground in his hometown of Otueke, Bayelsa State, President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to all voters around the country be patient while carrying out their electoral duties.

Jonathan who was at the polling unit in the company of his wife, Patience Jonathan failed to carry out his accreditation even after the fourth try.

Jonathan who arrived the accreditation centre at exactly 9:19am in the company of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan said he is not unduly bothered by the glitch.

According to him, “There may be issues [with the voting], but I am just one voter. Even if I have problems with my own, I am just one voter… and it is going on well in other places.”

He told reporters that he is particularly interested in the conduct of a free and fair election.

“My interest is to conduct credible elections and I urge everybody not to lose patience. If I can endure, everyone else should… you can see I am sweating,” he said.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) present at the accreditation centre has, however, told reporters that he is currently communicating with the Commission’s Chairman, Attahiru Jega to fashion out a way out of the problem.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s main rival, Muhammadu Buhari concluded his accreditation in the company of his wife, Aisha in Katsina.
