UPDATE: One suspect arrested in connection with Abuja shopping plaza blast

The Police has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in relation to the blast blast which occurred today in Abuja.

According to Frank Mba, the Police Public Relations Officer, twenty people have been confirmed dead in the bomb blast which occurred around 3:55pm today.

Seventeen others were injured in the blast.

“Twenty-one people are dead, seventeen are injured while over 17 vehicles of different model were burnt. The injured have been taken to hospitals in the city,” he said.

“The Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, appeals for calm, urges people not to panic and to avoid the area. He also assures Nigerians of full rescue efforts,” NAN reports.

According to Omeri, one of the terror suspects who came on a powerbike was killed by soldiers.

According to an eye witness, the bombers stopped at the Plaza gate while on powerbike and threw the explosive before bolting away in speed.
