WATCH: Le brute – Far-right politician slaps female member of parliament on live TV in Greece

by Stanley Azuakola

With viewers all across Greece watching live, a far right politician slapped a female MP several times across the face. The incident happened on a morning television show during a heated discussion of the country’s politics in the run-up to repeat elections on June 17.

Mr. Kasidiaris took offence at radical left Syriza party member Ms. Rena Dorou’s reference to a court case that is pending against him and tossed a glass of water across the table, splashing the water on Dorou.

As Ms. Kanelli (seated to his left) stood up in protest of the dousing, Mr. Kasidiaris, who has military training, slapped her several times across the face, at which point, talk show host Giorgos Papadakis immediately intervened and tried to restrain Mr. Kasidiaris.

The Athens prosecutor has ordered the arrest of Kasidiaris, who was elected to Parliament at Greece’s recent inconclusive polls.

In his defense, Mr. Kasidiaris has said the images were doctored by the TV station.
