War songs and mock coffin – How Rivers PDP members protested Wike’s governorship ambition

A group of protesters, who are Rivers State PDP party members, carried a mock coffin to the PDP;s national working committee to protest the party’s nomination as governorship candidate of the state.

On Wednesday, December 3, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’azu and other members of the PDP’s national working committee left their respective offices in Abuja on Wednesday, December 3 as angry party members took over the party’s secretariat.

According to the protesters, their agitation was to protest against former minister of state for education and the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and Uche Secondus, the national vice chairman of the party.

The protesters arrived the scene around 6 am, but would later be forcefully dispersed around 5:20 pm by the police, who fired live bullets and tear gas canisters into the air. Five of the protesters would later be arrested.
