We don’t do that here: Jos police foil attempt to break into prison

by Adeniyi Abdul

Jos police officials have apparently foiled plans by unknown men to sneak into a prison in the state. Reasons for the attempted entry are unknown, but according to an official who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, the men arrived in three jeeps, claiming they had been given orders “from above” to drill a borehole in the prison. The men however zoomed off when the guards of the prison alerted the police officers.

“The people came in three jeeps.” the source is quoted as saying. “When they approached the gate of the prison, they told our security guards that they were on special assignment to drill a borehole.”
“But when they were asked to open the car booths for routine checks before being allowed in, they refused.”
“When the guards became adamant, the men produced a letter indicating that they were instructed to sink a borehole in the prison.”
“The guards were unconvinced and quickly alerted the police, whose post is just few metres away from he prison.”
“Apparently sensing that the game was up with the police being alerted, the men zoomed off.”

A source at the Jos Prison also confirmed to The Punch that he saw the cars speeding away. “I was around when they came, but by the time I came to interview them further, I just saw the back of their vehicles as they were driving away at top speed.” he said. “They tried to trick the guards, but did not succeed.”

Yes. This is not Prison Break.
