Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Islamic militant group, Boko Haram has responded to the call for amnesty for his group saying it is not necessary because they have not committed any wrong.

His message was conveyed in an Hausa language audio recording distributed yesterday.

According to Shekau, the group has “not committed any wrong to deserve amnesty.”

“Surprisingly, the Nigerian government is talking about granting us amnesty. What wrong have we done? On the contrary, it is we that should grant you pardon,” he said,

He reportedly went on to list the ‘sins’ of the government against Muslims in the country.

Many observers and stakeholders have called for amnesty for Boko Haram militants in the interest of peace.

Recently, former military president and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) flagbearer in the 2011 elections, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, also made a case for amnesty saying it is not such a novel idea.

Some northern religious and political leaders have been urging President Jonathan to grant an amnesty to members of Boko Haram as they say the army’s response to the insurgency is not bringing peace.

  1. Instead of dis amnesty nonsense, d govt shud employ d services of foreign intelligence 2 fight dem. hw can u possibly negogiate wit terrorists? Can d devil hav mercy on his victim?

  2. If Boko Haram is a group fighting a religious war they will not accept amnesty. Only outright defeat or convincing superior argument will make them drop their weapons.
