‘What I want are free & fair elections’ + 8 other things Oba Akiolu told Pres. Jonathan yesterday

by Anike Jacobs

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Railwan Akiolu, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan should not be blamed for the problems of Nigeria.
He stated this while receiving the President at his palace in Lagos on Thursday, January 8, shortly after the presidential rally at the Tafawa Balewa Square.
He said that many of Nigeria’s problems in the country predated the Jonathan administration.
Below are 9 other things the respected monarch said:
1.   Fighting corruption is the responsibility of every Nigerian.
2.   What will be, will be; God Almighty will give the best person the opportunity to lead this country.
3.   Mr President, God knows the best; I am happy; what I want are free and fair elections.
4.   I am happy that Mr President directed INEC to ensure that voters’ cards are distributed to every eligible member of the electorate.
5.   INEC should ensure an efficient distribution of voters’ cards, because Lagos has more than six million eligible voters.
6.  Security agents should not be unfairly used against any citizen during the general elections.
7.  Both the PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, and his APC counterpart, Akinwunmi Ambode, are my children. I presented Ambode’s candidature for God’s blessing at the 2014 Hajj in Saudi Arabia but God would always have the final say.
8.   I am confident that Nigeria would be more united after the elections.
9.    Olusegun Obasanjo did not treat Lagos well during his administration and left many problems unsolved in the country.
