What we’ve gathered on the new Beyoncé film ‘Black Is King’


There’s quite a lot that comes to mind when Beyoncé is mentioned in any space, but, lately, the Grammy award-winning singer and performer has taken a shift from what could be considered her usual self to express and share opinions on matters beyond music and entertainment.

On Twitter, Beyoncé is sitting on the trend list and it is not because of a new song or an album or even some celebrity drama. The singer and mother is set to release a short-film which will address some political and social issues as it concerns race and acceptance. It comes as a companion project to The Lion King that was released in 2019.

Beyoncé’s short-film, Black is King, has got many of her fans, members, and allies of the black community talking as many has shared what a movie at a time like this means to the world. It also explores Beyonce’s return to her spiritual roots as a third generation Creole woman and her practice of Santeria.

According to many reports, the film will be a visual work for her latest album, The Gift, which featured a host of African singers and entertainers and was a companion album for the Lion King project. While many are sharing how much they are expecting to see the work, many others have applauded the singer for using her voice and platform for speak against social injustices especially as it concerns race.

With a lot going on in the world right now, especially as it concerns social injustices and racism many have stressed that a lot of celebrities need to use their platform and voice to challenge the status quo.

The film is set to be released on the 1st of July with a teaser released (leaked)  in the late hours of June 27th. The film will star Beyonce with spoken words by the singer and music from her Lion King: The Gift album. Produced and directed by Beyonce, the film will also feature Ghanaian singer and rapper Shatta Wale and is set to be released on Disney Plus on the 1st of July.
