According to sources close to the abducted  human rights lawyer,  Mike Ozekhome, the top legal practitioner has not yet been set free by his kidnappers due to the inability to pay the ransom demanded by them.

It was gathered from reports that the abductors insisted on collecting N100 million from Chief Ozekhome’s family before the human rights lawyer will be released from captivity which took place almost two weeks ago.

It was also gathered that the kidnappers refused the amount offered to them earlier, insisting that he had the money to pay the required ransom.

Daily Times news reports:

A family source, who pleaded anonymity, said: “They [the kidnappers] are saying that the lawyer is a very rich man, and N100 million should be ‘chicken change’ to him. They said they are aware that he has made a lot of money from election litigations.”

Meanwhile, the kidnapped All Progressive Congress chief in Edo North, Mr. Athanasius Ugbome, who was taken alongside Ozekhome, was on Sunday set free by his abductors.

The duo were kidnapped along the Benin-Auchi Road on August 23, before Ugbome was set free around 1am Sunday.
