A 44-year-old businesswoman took the ‘sex by right in marriage’ saying a little too literal, and it has cost her – her marriage.
Adenike Rodoye’s 20-year-old marriage to her husband Durojaiye, got dissolved by a Customary Court because she forced sex on him.
“My wife has turned my boxers to rags as she always tears them to rape me,” he revealed in court on Thursday.
Durojaiye also claimed that his wife beats him and has the tendency of possibly killing him one day.
“I had to run away from my 22-flat building to rent an apartment elsewhere just to avoid her frequent beatings, but she trailed me to my new apartment to fight me.”
“I had reported her in the past to different police stations, but it did not yield any positive result.”
Although she denied every allegation claiming he is a chronic womanizer who flouts basic responsibilities, Durojaiye begged the court to dissolve the marriage based on life threats and the lack of love in the marriage.
“Please, separate us before my wife kills me, my life is not safe with her, I am a pensioner, I need to enjoy the fruits of my labour,” he said.
After much attempt to bring both parties together for a reconciliation, court president Adegboyega Omilola said that he had to dissolve the union after the petitioner had insisted on the divorce.
“This court has no choice than to dissolve the union in spite of the fact that the wife still claims she loves her husband. Both parties are no longer husband and wife, as the marriage has broken down totally, they are free to go their separate ways,” Omilola ruled.
