We will resolve Niger Delta crisis, Buhari assures Obama

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured U.S. President, Barack Obama that his administration will take necessary steps to resolve the crisis in the Niger Delta.

This was in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina who said Buhari made the assurance during a meeting with Obam at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

“We are making definite progress on how many factions of the militant groups exist, their leadership and operational basis, and we have equally sought the cooperation of the oil majors.

“In a short while, I believe the issues would be resolved,’’ Buhari said.

Buhari reiterated that his administration will fulfill its promises on security, battle against corruption, and revamping of the economy.

He also said Nigeria was taking giant steps towards being self-sufficient, especially in agriculture.

He said, “Nigeria is on the road to food self-sufficiency soon.

“We shall be able to feed ourselves, and utilize the billions of dollars spent on importing food on other productive areas.’’

Obama while responding said America was ready to help in anyway, while commending the president for defeating Boko Haram.

“There are some difficulties you face, but this administration is willing to assist in the short time we have left.

“You have made real progress in defeating the brutal organization called Boko Haram, and that was achieved because of your leadership,” he said.
