#WorldCup Roundup: Ronaldo scores hat-trick against Spain in six-goal thriller | Egypt and Morocco fall to late defeats

The name on the lips of ALL football fans right now is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese captain rallied Portugal to a crucial 3-3 draw against Iberian rivals Spain by scoring a hat-trick.

He set the ball rolling by scoring in the 4th minute by scoring a well-placed penalty. However, Spain did not rest on their oars as they equalised in the 24th minute with an exquisite finish from Diego Costa, who battled against four Portugese players before placing the ball at the bottom corner. Ronaldo restored the lead in the 44th minute due to an error from Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

Spain restored parity in the second half with Costa scoring his second in the 55th minute and took the lead from a stunning shot from Nacho Fernandez. However, Ronaldo made sure he stole the headline by scoring a curling free-kick from the edge of the box in the 88th minute that gave De Gea no chance.

The result puts Spain and Portugal at one point apiece with Iran topping the group after their late 1-0 victory over Morocco earlier in the day after Aziz Bouhaddouz conceded a late own goal.

Earlier, Uruguay dealt Egypt a crushing blow with a late 89th minute header from Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez in a well-contested game. Egypt was strong and solid but had no real bite in attack with the absence of Mo Salah.
