“Yerima’s time is up, it’s my turn at the table” – Zamfara Senatorial aspirant

by James Sambo

On Thursday, 2 October, a senatorial aspirant from Zamfara state, Mr Sani Takori, insisted that he would not drop his ambition to contest Zamfara-West senatorial seat for the incumbent, Senator Ahmed Yarima.

Takori disclosed this at a news conference in Gusau, where he revealed that his Local Government Area, Gummi, had supported Yarima for two terms as governor and two terms as senator, hence, it was now the time for somebody else to take the mantle.

Takori said the people of his local government and others within the constituency had urged him to vie for the position, to have a better and balanced representation at the senate.

He said, “I have resigned my position as Legal Adviser of APC in compliance with the provision of the constitution of the APC which says every person holding a key position in the party must resign 30 days before nomination. I resigned since 7 September, 2014.”

“We are not intimidating, insulting or threatening Yarima. In fact, we believe him to be our leader and as a leader, he made certain remarkable achievements. But that does not mean he does not make some mistakes and the mistakes are what we are ready to correct for him.”

“We have given him our trust and confidence because we voted him four times in the state. Therefore, whoever disregards our move is not a democrat because our demand is neither unreasonable nor nonsensical politically,” Takori added
