8 APC Governors allegedly behind National Assembly’s latest crisis

It is believed that eight governors of the All Progressives Congress, are behind the show of shame that ensued at the House of Representatives on Thursday, June 25.

The governors are; Comrade Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger) Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Abubuakar Badaru (Jigawa)

According to Vanguard, the governors decided to intervene in the elections of the principal officers of the National Assembly, because of the crisis that emanated from the elections of Dr. Bukola Saraki and Rep. Yakubu Dogara as Senate president and the Speaker, House of Representatives respectively.

On Tuesday, June 23, we reported that they arrived the national secretariat of the APC impromptu and unannounced to meet with party chairman, John Oyegun.

The report stated that the governors were behind the letters written to the senate president and the Speaker, in which APC as a party was said to have submitted the list of its candidates for the principal positions in both chambers of the National Assembly.

Oyegun was said to have been pressured by the 8 governors who brought the list of the candidates along with them.

A source close to Oyegun revealed to Vanguard that Oyegun was displeased with their demands, and would plead with them to allow for their to be negotiations with the leaders of the National Assembly in the interest of peace.

The governors reportedly refused to shift ground and stuck to their guns that the National Assembly must do the bidding of the party.

The source was quoted to have said: “At that time, the chairman became helpless. He was left with no other options than to do what the governors said. In fact, Oyegun would have resigned his chairmanship there and then because he considered that they did as unethical.

“He reminded the governors that APC stood for change, that what the party needed to do was to go into negotiation with Saraki and Dogara to prevent the case of winner-takes-all. But they insisted it must be those people. Now, you can see the outcome of their insistence.”
