Heavily armed men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect reportedly attacked the headquarters of Nafada Local Government Area of Gombe state killing soldiers, an Islamic cleric and several others.
A Punch Newspaper source said the insurgents attacked the town around 11am today setting ablaze the police station and the Local Government Secretariat.
According to the source: “The gunmen then went to the house of an Islamic cleric named Adamu Misira and opened fire on him and other people numbering over 10 that were there with him, killing all of them. They had earlier killed the soldiers on duty at the checkpoint between Gombe and Yobe states, located in Nafada.”
However, when contacted, the State Police Commissioner, Kudu Nma, could not confirm the incident saying he is yet to hear of such attack.
He promised to give the details of the incident as soon as it is made available to him.
Boko Haram insurgents had days ago seized Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa forcing thousands of residents out of their homes.
The Federal Government has assured that it is doing all it can to stem the tide of insurgent activities in the North eastern part of the country.
