Buhari won’t wade into Jafaru Isa’s arrest, investigation – Presidency

The Presidency would not dabble into the arrest and probe of Retired Brigadier-General, Jafaru Isah, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Isa, a political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, became the first chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to be arrested by the EFCC since the commencement of the arms funds diversion investigation.

The APC chieftain was arrested at his Abuja residence by operatives of the anti-graft commission around 9pm on Wednesday after he failed to honour an invitation to make clarifications into some payments traced to him from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Isa, who was said to have received N100 million from the office of the former NSA, has been with Buhari from the days of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, to the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.

Vanguard quotes one of Buhari’s aides to have revealed that the President, despite being close to Isa, would not interfere in the investigation into his role in the diversion of $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase by officials of the last administration.

The aide was quoted to have said that Buhari’s relationship with Isa is not indication that the former was privy to the fact that he received some funds from the former NSA’s office.

“It is true that Isah has been with Buhari from the days of the ANPP and CPC and was equally a member of the Transition Committee and actually headed the Defence Committee.

That does not mean that Buhari knows anything about the N100 million said to have been collected by the man from the ONSA.”
