Former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has debunked claims that he is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
There were reports in the media claiming that Okupe is being probed by the anti-graft agency for his involvement in the $2.1 billion arms scandal and payments made to Daar Communications.
Reacting to the news, Okupe said he wasn’t given any special remuneration for his efforts during the 2015 presidential election.
“My office does not have a budget or any capital vote. My office lacked the capacity to award contracts. I was employed to do a job and I was loyal and committed totally to my employer and whatever I considered was important in the line of my duty.”
“I did not receive neither did I take any special gratifications for what I did. This is what is difficult for most of my detractors to believe.”
He added that the reports in the media are at best speculative and not drawn from any modicum of truth.
“From the entire write up it is obvious the writer(s) of the story were speculating and imagining things that are not real. The EFCC cannot embark on an investigation based purely on fiction and delusionary imaginations.”
“I am ashamed at the extent some unscrupulous and ill-bred journalists will go to disparage the innocent by publishing outright falsehood. Even if people are paid to bring imaginary political enemies down, do they not have the fear of God?”
He further stated that all the people waiting for his arrest would wait in vain.
“Those who are impatiently waiting for my arrest, by the Grace of the Almighty God who I serve, and whose precepts I have kept all my life, in and out of office, will wait till kingdom come.”
