‘Economic terrorists’, ‘supervillains’; Niger Delta Avengers strike again

As if dealing with the scourge of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram and the rampaging Fulani herdsmen is not enough for the country, a new group of militants has reared its head in the Niger Delta.

The group, which tagged itself ‘Niger Delta Avengers’ has claimed responsibility for the bombing of pipelines that link both Warri and Kaduna with crude feeds.

The Niger Delta Avengers also gave “a clear warning to all Niger Delta politicians, traditional rulers, community leaders and the likes of Tompolo to mind their business and leave the liberation of the Niger Delta people to the Avengers.”

“Those who believe taking sides with the federal government to fight Niger Delta is the best option, Avengers are here on the ground. Neither you nor the federal government can stop us. If you don’t stay clear and let us carry out our activities, we will bring the fight to your individual doorsteps. Our major goal is to cripple the Nigeria economy.”

The new crop of militants clearly are ‘economic terrorists’ – with their latest dastardly act guaranteed to add more to the already gargantuan suffering of the poor Nigerian masses.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mudoch Agbinibo, the group claimed to have destroyed the pipeline that gives Lagos and Abuja electricity supply gas.

This means that the two cities would be thrown into pitch blackness in the coming days and with the recent scarcity of fuel across the nation, God save Lagosians and the residents of the capital city.

The group added that on Thursday, May 6, its Strike Team 7 blew up Well D25 in Abiteye which is owned by Chevron.

The Avengers also attacked major pipelines in Alero, Dibi, Otunana and Makaraba flow stations, which  feed the Chevron tank farm despite the heavy military presence in the area.

This means that Chevron’s activities in the Niger Delta have been completely disrupted as the main gas feeds to their installations have been destroyed by the Avengers.

It sure looks like the epileptic power supply in Nigeria is about to go comatose just because some militants are angry and disgruntled.
