PDP factions submit different candidates’ names for Ondo gov. polls

The Ondo State governorship election is set to become more interesting as two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have submitted different names to INEC as their candidate for the election.

Punch reports that the camp of the National Caretaker Committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi submitted the name of Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), while the Ali Modu Sheriff faction named Jimoh Ibrahim as its candidate for the election scheduled to hold on November 26.

Both candidates had emerged in separate primaries conducted by the factions. Jimoh ibrahim had emerged candidate of the Sheriff faction at a primary held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital while Eyitayo Jegede picked Makarfi’s faction ticket in Ondo State.

INEC’s Deputy Director on Voters Education and Publicity, Nick Dazang confirmed that the Makarfi faction has submitted a name, stating that the commission will look at the law and decide who the right candidate is.

He said, “Yes, one of them, the Makarfi group had submitted the name of its candidate. I’m not sure if the Sheriff faction has done the same thing either today (Thursday) or yesterday (Wednesday).

“At the end of the day, the commission will sit down to look at the law and take a position on who is the right candidate and who is not.”
