You would be forgiven if you thought this was published on City People. But SaharaReporters has a scoop on the troubles of popular government contractor Emeka Offor.

The almost jubilant report spotlights crisis is on three fronts: financial, health and family.

Here are seven things you will learn from the story.

1. The rich also cry 

Offor is as good as broke and currently unable to pay staff salaries for more than a year. His offices in Abuja have also been closed down and is having long drawn fights with many of his suppliers and creditors.

2. It’s a triple threat for his health 

Offor is facing three health issues all at the same time. He is battling with diabetes and a heart issue, and is also having issues with his eyesight which has been deteriorating for years and is almost leaving Offor blind.

3. His first wife has killed chill 

If you had thought the financial and health crisis were just enough to weaken Offor, the happenings within his family is worse.

In January 2015, his first love Nkiru Offor, whom he married 34 years stormed Offor’s village of Irefi in Oraifite and caused a huge scene in his home. She wasn’t alone as her children accompanied her, they chased away all the domestic staff, changed all the locks in the house and destroyed all the pictures Offor took with his third wife, Adaora, a dropout from the Law Department at the Enugu Campus of the University of Nigeria at Nsukka (UNN).

Her action is believed to be hinged on the perception that the recent mild stroke she suffered was a spiritual attack from Offor and Adaora his third wife.

4. This is how bad it has become 

Offor loved his father and had no problem sending him on various trips abroad. Now that his father is dead, Offor is believed to be delaying the burial so he can gather enough money to spend lavishly on the burial.

5. He is at war with his kids 

Offor has an estranged relationship with some of his children. His first son, Chuka, who is over 30 is currently based in London and jobless! Yes, jobless! But home come? Offor has refused all entreaties by friends and families to employ the young man in one of his many companies, because Chuka is not a graduate.

He also has an issue with his first daughter who has two children out of wedlock for a young man from Ondo state. His daughter has since been leaving with the father of her children, who is ready to marry her but Offor is having none of it. He insists that his daughter cannot marry someone not from a wealthy family.

But some believe that Offor’s reason for rejecting the young man is laughable as he (Offor) was a truck driver in a construction company before fate smiled finances on him during the Abacha regime.

6. What’s a Nigerian rich man without rumors of the occult?

There are accusations and counter-accusations that Offor and Nkiru, his first wife are involved in some fetish practices. Some people are even of the opinion that Offor introduced Nkiru into the practice. And since she knows many of his secrets Offor is scared of her.

They strongly believe he belongs to a secret cult to which he swore never to assist family members, including those in desperate need.

7. Even his mother has bones to pick 

As much as Offor loved his father and spent lavishly on him, the case seems not to be the same between him and his mother. This is believed to be because his mother has always questioned his excesses.
