100 days of Trump: The White House shared a fake US flag + other errors that cannot be pardoned

by Tolu.O

It’s been 99 days of the Trump presidency and many of us are still quite dazed that the candidate we all dubbed “joker” made it to the White House. In the last 99 days, we’ve been treated to the finest comedy, thriller, action, fantasy, horror and whatever other genres there are when it comes to films.

Not only has President Trump wowed (“wow” here is based on individual perception) us with political mumbo jumbo since his administration, his White House also has been caught in a never-before-seen type of chaos. It’s not hard to explain what went wrong with the White House and at what point. It’s the confusion that characterizes Trump’s personality that feeds into the activities of his White House staff. Or we may be completely wrong!

Let’s not start to fool ourselves into thinking the President Buhari administration is the most ridiculous ever, what with the unimaginable gaffes that have been put out by his media team. The White House we used to adore has been committing very unpardonable errors recently, all of which just somehow have Trump stamped all over them.

See this most recent one. Someone at the White House graphics design department apparently used a fake flag of the United States on the artwork the President tweeted on the First Lady’s birthday. We wonder how many stages of editing the artwork passed through before it got to the President who himself did not notice that the US flag on it had only 39 stars; when it actually should have 50.

So, it’s not like the 39-star flag never existed but it was designed in 1889 but became obsolete in 1890 when five new states were created. Is it that someone in the White House isn’t keeping up with history or just forgot to update their system?

But let’s take that as a honest mistake. How does one explain this then?

Just last week, the White House press team released the text of a press briefing earlier done by the US Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin. Only that the press release described Mnuchin as Secretary of Commerce. You’d wonder how the words ‘treasury’ and ‘commerce’ were confused by the press team or was it a case of “the press team do not actually know who heads what office”? You never know with these Trump people.

Trump’s press team can’t spell too. AMAZING!

Here’s President Trump’s official schedule detailing his meeting with UK Prime Minister, Teresa May. Ouch! Did we just make that mistake too? Her name is THERESA MAY. But someone on the press team does not know that. Especially since the error was repeated twice.

They don’t understand parody too?

In March, the White House press team did something novel. It created an email newsletter called Your 1600 Daily. In one of the first publications, they shared an article that was supposedly in praise of President Trump’s good works. The article was written by a Washington Post columnist and she titled it: “Trump’s budget makes perfect sense and will fix America, and I will tell you why.”

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

This budget will make America a lean, mean fighting machine with bulging, rippling muscles and not an ounce of fat. America has been weak and soft for too long. BUT HOW WILL I SURVIVE ON THIS BUDGET? you may be wondering. I AM A HUMAN CHILD, NOT A COSTLY FIGHTER JET. You may not survive, but that is because you are SOFT and WEAK, something this budget is designed to eliminate“.

Much to the praise of the President, huh? How come no one understood the sarcasm splashed all over this?

Well, moving on.

Trump’s Press Secretary, Sean Spicer has had to apologise more than once for his own embarrassing gaffes in the last 100 days and it seems America has had enough.

But this is only about three months out of four years. No one needs a soothsayer to tell that at the end of the Trump administration in 2021 (if he lasts till that time), we’d have a loaded encyclopaedia of White House gaffes. Or maybe we won’t. Maybe Trump will fire these people and replace them with competent staff.
