Court restrains Senate from arresting former EFCC boss Lamorde

EFCC boss, Ibrahim Lamorde, to be investigated by EFCC | YNaija.com

A federal High court sitting in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Nigerian Senate and the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, from arresting the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde.

It would be recalled that the Senate had last month initiated procedures to arrest Lamorde for failing to appear before the Senate Ethic and Privilege committee to answer allegations of N1 trillion fraud.

According to a petition written to the Senate committee, Lamorde had failed to account for said funds while he held sway as Chairman of the anti-graft agency.

Instead of responding to the Senate’s invitation, Larmode had filed a lawsuit challenging the investigation into the matter.

The presiding Judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, had issued the order restraining the senate and the IGP based on an ex-parte motion filed before the court by Lamorde.

Lamorde, through his lawyer, had prayed the court to stop the upper legislative chamber from issuing a warrant for his arrest until the hearing and ruling of a substantive suit he had filed before the court earlier.
