7 amazing snacks that are healthy for your kids

This is the easiest and most self-explanatory of all snacks. All you need is some fruit, some yogurt and a blender. Take a cup of your little one’s favorite fruit and put it in the blender.

Finding snacks for your kids is hard, I’ll admit, so when you have kids you’re always on the lookout for new ways to find and make snacks for your little one. Sometimes it can be easy and sometimes it can make you want to pull your hair out. But, since I am the mother of one very pick eater, I am here to help you on your quest to find snacks for your little one that they will gobble up!

1. Yogurt Pretzel Pops

You know those cool make-them-at-home Popsicle trays that you see at the dollar store? Well, take one of those and fill it with your little one’s favorite kind of yogurt (G man likes blueberry greek yogurt) then put a thick pretzel rod (I buy the ones that have less salt) right in the middle. Then, all you have to do is freeze it! Sounds easy right? Because it is! This is one of the yummiest snacks for your little one and it’s so much better for them than a sugary Popsicle!

2. Baked Sweet Potato Chips

This is my own little recipe for something sweet and crunchy that I recently discovered my son loves too! Instead of frying up greasy sweet potato fries, I microwave a sweet potato for about 2 minutes until it’s just a little softer than normal. Then, I cut the sweet potato into really thin strips and put those strips on a piece of parchment paper on a a cookie sheet. I bake them at 375 until the little circles start to crinkle and look crispy (the time varies depending on how thick you cut the potatoes; mine are usually in for about 10-15 minutes). After I pull them out of the oven I sprinkle them with just a pinch of sugar and I have a sweet, yet healthy, crunchy little snack!

3. Cereal Trail Mix

Peanut Butter Cheerios are the greatest thing since sliced bread, at least to my little man. So, I took that and ran with it. I will take a handful of Peanut Butter Cheerios, a handful of regular Cheerios, a handful of yogurt covered raisins and a handful of whole grain Chex cereal and mix them all together in a bag. Then, G man has a snack for the whole day (well, the bag usually lasts a lot longer than a day if I don’t dip into it) … and it’s all whole grain cereal that I don’t have to feel guilty about giving him!

4. Peanut Butter And Jelly Pops

Remember those dollar store Popsicle trays from before? You’ll need them again! My grandmother used to make these for me when I was a kid and now Garrett loves them. Take a spoon full of creamy peanut butter and place it in the bottom of your Popsicle tray. Then take a spoonful of strawberry jam (I use the homemade stuff my aunt cans herself) and put that on top of the peanut butter (here’s the best part)… now take plain vanilla yogurt and mix in a little bit of strawberry jam. Fill the Popsicle tray the rest of the way with your vanilla yogurt/jam mix and freeze. When ready you’ll have a PB&J on the go!

5. Whole Grain Waffle Boats

Have you ever seen the movie 50 First Dates? You know the scene where Drew Barrymore’s character is trying to build things with her waffles? That kind of inspired this snack. Take a normal sized whole grain waffle and cut it in half. Leave one half on the plate and leave it alone. Then, take the other half and cut it into 2 pieces. One quarter is your sail. Cut out a small triangle to go on top of the sail and eat the rest (you deserve a treat). You can either serve it with syrup or jam or plain. But, either way, all you need is a toaster and a knife to make this snack happen.

6. Fruit Shakes

This is the easiest and most self-explanatory of all snacks. All you need is some fruit, some yogurt and a blender. Take a cup of your little one’s favorite fruit and put it in the blender. Then, add half a cup of yogurt to the blender. Blend and serve in your son/daughter’s favorite cup and you have a healthy, one-handed drink to go!

7. Grammy Sammy by Plum Organics

Now, we can’t all be perfect moms that make every snack, every day, so when you’re in a rush, Grammy Sammy organic snacks for kids are the perfect treat. They can be found at your local Toys R Us or online at the Plum Organics website. Easy peasy!

Well ladies, these are some of the healthy snacks that my little one loves! What snacks do your kids gobble up? Let me know down below!
