Nigerian writer, Binyerem Ukonu, whose collection of short stories, ‘The Water was Hot’ is making waves in India, has donated his royalties to Akshaya’s Helping in H.E.L.P Trust, India.

Akshaya’s Helping in H.E.L.P Trust is run by CNN Hero, Narayanan Krishnan who feeds and clothes the poor and needy in the south Indian state of Madurai.

In an email to his publishers, Serene Woods, India, Binyerem said: “I watched a documentary on CNN Heroes recently, and was touched by the love of an Indian for his brothers that lack the basic things of life. His name is Narayanan Krishnan. I am yet to contact him.”

He continued: “I want my earnings (royalty) from ‘The Water was Hot’ to be sent to him as a form of support for his efforts in India.”

Binyerem Ukonu and Ofor Aluka are the brains behind the emerging publishing firm, Griots Lounge, which is set to revolutionize the Nigerian publishing industry.
