A black British woman of Nigerian origin has given birth to a white baby, recording a medical rarity of sorts.

32-year-old Catherine Howarth, who is from Milton Keynes, says she was overwhelmed with surprise when she had a first look at her son, Jonah.

She delivered the baby on 1 June at Milton Keynes Hospital.

Howarth said, “The midwife looked at me and looked back down at Jonah and then at me again and couldn’t believe it.”

The baby, who’s now 3-month-old has a pale skin, green eyes and light brown hair.

“We have been told I must have been carrying a recessive gene. My parents were from Nigeria and, for as far back as anyone can remember; my family have all been black,” she added.
