A whole family of five was wiped out in a pre-dawn attack by armed gunmen in Heipang, Barkin Ladi local government of Plateau state.
They were slaughtered while the family was asleep late in the night at about 12.30am on Tuesday.
The Nation reports:
Residents said the gunmen came in their numbers and were armed with guns and machetes. They shot sporadically to scare residents.
A member of the village, Abel Abok said, “We were woken up with gun shots, but we were afraid to come out because the gun shots were sporadic. We heard members of the family shouting and calling for help but we were afraid to come out.
“When we later came out the gunmen had left. We discovered they have killed all these people.”
The sole administrator of Barkin Ladi local government, Habila Dung, confirmed the attack.
