Arsenal host Manchester City on opening day of the 2018/19 Premier League

Unai Emery

The English Premier League released the fixtures for the 2018/2019 calendar which will commence on Saturday, 11th of August. Arsenal will host English champions, Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, Champions League finalist, Liverpool will host West Ham. Man United will host Leicester and Huddersfield Town will welcome Chelsea.

Arsenal’s first two fixtures will be a tough test for new manager Unai Emery who will face Pep Guardiola’s Man City then he will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. Emery has won none of his last 10 games against Guardiola and his job at Arsenal has been made that much difficult with tough opening fixtures.

Emery will have time to get the ground running in due course and his next stretch of tough games will be in December against North London rivals Tottenham and then Manchester United.

Champions Man City will face Huddersfield Town, Wolves and Newcastle in their next three fixtures and will be looking to hit the ground running in defence of their title. Last season’s runner-up Manchester United, will face Brighton, Tottenham and Burnley in their next three fixtures.

Klopp’s Liverpool will face Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester City in Jurgen Klopp’s fourth season in charge of the Reds while Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham will play Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester United and Watford in their first four fixtures. Chelsea will play Huddersfield, Arsenal, Newcastle and Bournemouth in their first four fixtures as well.

It will be a thrilling season and avid followers of the EPL cannot wait for the League to kick off in a couple of months time, and hopefully Liverpool will win the League this year – yes I said it.
