A prominent son of the former VP, Mustapha, has reacted to his father’s failure to clinch the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday.

Speaking shortly after his father conceded defeat via his Twitter handle, Mustapha said “It sucks to lose. My preferred candidate lost, but I remain equally eager to support our party (APC) in replacing the government in Aso Rock.

“That Atiku lost is not the end of the world, we can still build ‘a Nigeria for all’ without him at the very top.

“This is not the end of the road for us. My father, Atiku Abubakar, is a great man and I feel honoured to be his son and have the opportunity to learn from him,” Mustapha added.

Atiku’s United Kingdom-based daughter, Aishat, also consoled her dad over the loss, saying, “Proud of you! Always and forever, Atiku.”

A former military Head-of-State, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, defeated Atiku and the three other aspirants polling 3430 votes at the primiaries on Thursday.

Atiku came third with 954 votes as another leading aspirant and Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, polled 974 votes to emerge first runner-up.
