“No election is free and fair in Nigeria” – Balarabe Musa

According to elder statesman, Balarabe Musa, having a free and fair election in Nigeria is presently impossible.

The former governor of the old Kaduna state said on Sunday, that the financial capability of a candidate is the only determinant of success in an election in Nigeria.

Musa said that in all the past elections conducted since Nigeria returned to democracy, popularity and acceptance were hardly the deciding factors.

Reacting to the Kogi State governorship poll, Musa revealed to Punch that money was always the key factor in the country’s election, as opposed to the electorate’s votes.

“I have no word for the candidates, the two major contestants or the winner of the election because I know that no election was free and fair in Nigeria. All are decided by money power. It is the candidate with the highest financial strength that the odds favour.”

“The votes of the people have never counted in any election in Nigeria and they may never count until money power is removed from politics.”
