“He bit off a policeman’s finger” || Man arraigned in court for assault

Israel Sunday, a 30-year-old man, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s court for biting a police officer’s fingers.

He appeared on Friday, 4 September before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged with assaulting a police officer.

Isiaka Ajadi, the Prosecutor told the court that Sunday committed the offence on 4 Sept at about 9 a.m. at Orita-Olaiya Area of Osogbo, Osun.

Ajadi said, “the accused allegedly bit one Hamzat Adebayo, a police officer with Force Number 8073GI, after he cautioned the accused over his wrong approach to road use.”

“He descended on the police officer and bit his left fingers after which he was rushed to a hospital in the vicinity,” the prosecutor added.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Ragenous Ugwu, counsel to the accused, begged the court to grant bail to his client in liberal terms. The Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till 29 September for mention.
