by Kolapo Olapoju

Musiliu Obanikoro, the former Minister of State for Defence, has blamed northern leaders for the emergence and rise of terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

He uttered the comments on Wednesday, February 4, at the inauguration of a civic centre built by a member of the House of Representatives, Abiodun Akinlade, at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Yewa South LGA of Ogun State.

Obanikoro claimed that northern leaders have through the years, failed to significantly invest in the future of the youth though qualitative education.

He said: “We have Boko Haram today because the leaders of that section of the country did not invest in their education. President Goodluck Jonathan is already addressing this by constructing 123 almajiri schools in four years.”

Speaking further, the erstwhile Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, said the South-West was peaceful because the former Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, invested in the education of the region.
