There are reports of a deadly bomb blast at a drinking joint and a brothel near a military base in Mubi, Adamawa State.

SaharaReporters, an online news platform, are reporting a casualty figure of about sixty people but there has been no official confirmation of this.

The explosion was said to have occurred around 6pm with many speculating that the military base may have been the target.

No group has claimed responsibility for this attack but many believe it is consistent with the activities of the Boko Haram Islamic sect which has terrorized many parts of the North in the past few years.

The incessant kidnappings and bomnb attacks perpetrated by the insurgents forced the Goodluck Jonathan administration to declare a State of Emergency in three states in the North east including Adamawa which has again been attacked. The two other states under the Emergency Rule are Borno and Yobe.

The bombed facility is a short distance away from the headquarters of the Special Operations Battalion (SOB) of the Nigerian army in Mubi. The battalion is at the center of the Nigerian government’s counter-offensive against Boko Haram’s increasingly daring attacks on military and civilian targets.
