Bristow barred from using model of crashed helicopter

Following the crash-landing incident of Wednesday, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the operation of Bristow Helicopters Limited’s Sikorsky S-76C++ aircraft type.

The suspension is to enable the NCAA carry out a full scale audit on Bristow’s operations with particular emphasis on the Sikorsky S-76C++ type.

This was disclosed by the Director General of NCAA, Muhtar Usman, at a press conference on Thursday.

Usman stated that the suspension of the aircraft type does not affect ongoing investigations into the crash by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).

He also added that the recurring accidents by Bristow helicopters has nothing to do with the safety audit to be carried out in the country by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which is slated for next month.

“I must mention that this suspension is not a vote of no confidence on the airline. It is to ascertain the adequacy and the propriety of the operating aircraft,” Usman said.
