How retired policeman, son were killed by cultists

Suspected cultists on Thursday killed a retired Assistant Superintendent ofPolice and his son in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

According to The Punch the retired ASP, Daniel Akogwu was killed alongside his son by a cult group.

It was alleged that one of the sons of the late police officer who is now at large, is a member of the group.

It was further learnt that the suspected cultists invaded the residence of the deceased in search of the son at about 4am.

A neighbour who was identified as Mr Adah, said the cult group laid ambush around Akogwu’s apartment.

He said, “It was when the mother of the boy, a food seller, who usually came out early to prepare for her business, opened the door that she stormed into them and started shouting.

“The screaming attracted the deceased’s husband’s attention. He quickly took his cutlass behind his bed and ran out to find out why the wife was shouting. It was at that point that the cult boys opened fire and killed him instantly. They sighted the son and also shot at him and killed too.”

Mr Adah said the killers’ attempt to set the corpses and their home ablaze was scuttled by the arrival of the police.

The police spokesman in the state, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident.

The PPRO said investigation to unravel the killers of the former police officer and his son was ongoing.
