by Dolapo Adelana

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali on Wednesday failed to honour an invitation by the Senate to appear before it for the second time.

The upper chamber had mandated Ali to appear before it in uniform over the planned seizure of vehicles without full registration by the Customs.

Ali on Monday had written the Senate that he would not be able to honour the invitation due to an official assignment.

But the Senate rejected the letter, stating that he must be present before it unfailingly on Wednesday.

Ali, however failed to appear before the Senate.

The Senate has again summoned the Customs boss to appear before it on Thursday unfailingly.

“Nobody is above the law, the CG must appear tomorrow,” Senate President Bukola Saraki said.

Recall that Ali had a private meeting with Saraki on Tuesday evening after the Senate insisted he appears before it in uniform.

He also wrote another addressed to Saraki stating that he was seeking legal advice on the issues of wearing uniform.
