Harrysong didn’t steal twins photos but his story still doesn’t make sense

Last weekend, Reggae Blues singer, Harrysong was the subject of heavy criticism on social media after he joined the pathetic list of celebrities who mislead their fans with fake/borrowed images of things they do not originally own.

The “beautiful” thing about Harrysong’s turn was that he took things up more than a few notches. He did not share stolen photos of dogs like you-know-who nor did he flaunt photos of stacked cash like his former label mate. He shared photos of his newborn twins – no offence right? Only that one of the photos was “picked up” from a nursing website in the United States and the other was a stock photo straight up from Google.

Of course, the Nigerian audience did not spare Harrysong and it didn’t take long for a fan to discover the original source of the photos. That’s essentially the backstory to all of this.

For days, Harrysong and his team maintained silence on the matter until Wednesday when they put out a statement with an intention, we assume, is to clear the air or lay the matter to rest. But the statement doesn’t cut it for us, in fact, it has raised more questions and Harrysong and his team may need to come forth for further clarifications on this issue.

First, Harrysong admitted he made a mistake and maybe that’s all right. Don’t we all make those silly mistakes in this overwhelming age of social media? We, at least, appreciate his humility to address the situation. This brings to our remembrance the case of the celebrity who shared a stolen image of dogs and could not do right by apologising for apparent theft after she was called out.

That’s a solid basis for comparison but let’s get to the meat of the matter by backtracking a bit. The sudden birth of Harrysong’s twins is in itself shrouded in lies, deception and confusion. In a recent television interview, Harrysong blatantly denied being in a relationship and expressed hesitancy about marriage and having kids. His words were:  “If I had a girlfriend, she’d probably be trending right now“. At the time of the interview, we raised no eyebrows, we had no reason to doubt him, we hardly even paid any attention until days later when we heard he welcomed twins. Uncle how? How do you father children without having a romantic relationship with a woman? Why’d you lie?

But it seems we may have gotten our answer from today’s statement. “To set the record straight, the Instagram account, @perezandtarela was set up by Harrysong’s baby mama.” Notice the word babymama! So apart from underlying message of “she’s nothing more than a babymama” he’s passed with this hence his denial of the lady’s existence in the interview, we also now know that “babymama” is officially a thing. Maybe we’re the last to catch the gist though…

The crux of the statement explaining how he reposted the photo he found on the page set up for the newborn twins by his babymama’s sister blah blah is the worst narrative we’ve read in recent times. First, it reeks of more lies then it also points to the fact that someone in Harrysong’s team is incapable of doing one job – damage control.

That said, we cannot pass up the awkwardness of the entire statement knowing it came from his label. The phrase “we at AlterPlate” kept popping up and we can’t help but wonder if Harrysong is able to separate his personal issues from those that concern his music – the latter which should ultimately be label business.

The only way out of this for Harrysong is to shut up about all of it. The world will forget in no time.
