BET Awards 2017: the winners, the biggest moments and the red carpet stars

For the black folk in entertainment, the BET Awards is the biggest platform for recognition and celebration.

The event which held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles  on Sunday night was opened by 24k Magic singer, Bruno Mars who also won the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist award beating Chris Brown and The Weeknd in that category.

Beyonce was the most nominated artiste and although she missed the event (thanks to new babies), she was able to sweep the Best Female R&B/Pop, Best Album and the Coca Cola Viewers Choice Awards, all for her record-breaking Lemonade album.

For the film categories, everybody’s favourite Cookie, Taraji P.Henson picked up the Best Actress award while Oscar award winner, Ali Mahershala won in the Best Actor category.

Nigeria’s Starboy, Wizkid was announced Best International Act: Africa earlier in the weekend while grime rapper, Stormzy won in the European category. See the full list of winners here.

One of the biggest highlights of the night was seeing Remy Ma beat arch-rival, Nicki Minaj to win in the Best Female Hip Hop category. Remy finally has something big to brag about now and we’ll be waiting to see if she’ll diss Nicki again.

Future who attended the event with his daughter, Londyn Wilburn wearing masks performed his 2017 hit single, Mask Off on the award stage and guess what? He brought Kendrick Lamar on stage to perform with him.

The BET Lifetime Achievement Award winners, New Edition performed some of their classics, If it isn’t Love, Can’t you stand the rain and a medley of other hits.

Of course, some Nigerians came for him reminding him that his career needs a touch of Don Jazzy if it is be revived. D’banj retorted with a confusing statement, “Even @donjazzy knows in his heart he is begging me

We will never know what’s going on in Don Jazzy’s heart until he tells us.
