FAAN says leaking roof at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos has been fixed

Yesterday, a video of a leaking patch in the roof of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport “D Wing” went viral. It was reported that the leaks caused some flooding inside the airport.

This development of course, led to instant conversations online about the sorry state of airport facilities in Nigeria and prompted an immediate reaction from a representative of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The FAAN handle on Twitter has updated the state of affairs regarding the roof. In a tweet embedded with photos, the regulatory authority tried to assure Nigerians that the roof has been fixed already.

One of the photos shows workers passing a roofing sheet to waiting handy men on the roof while another shows the handy men on the roof laying the new sheet.

It’s is not very clear whether these repairs took place yesterday or at an earlier date. However, an accompanying statement from the FAAN authority claims that the leaking patch was caused civil engineering works taking place throughout the airport facility in compliance with new government policies.

The statement goes on to attribute the reason why the patch was not immediately fixed to safety precautions taken to avoid having engineers on the roof during the rainy season considering the “altitude and slipperiness” while the rains lasted.

Finally, the statement assures that core operations of the airport were not been affected by the leaking patch nor by the ongoing engineering upgrades.
